Griffintown is a district in Montreal which continues to seduce and surprise thanks to the housing boom. Rejuvenated, reinvented and full of life, this upscale neighbourhood is one of the oldest in Montreal and is also one of the most dynamic ones.
Affectionately known as "The Griff" by its first inhabitants, the district has welcomed famous celebrities over the decades. Nowadays, Griffintown is a trendy place where artists, musicians, companies, universities are gathered. This multicultural place is full of fashion restaurants, unprecedented art galleries, or even upscale residential projects.

After a decrease between 2011 and 2014, the real-estate market has risen by 5% regarding the number of properties sold in Montreal in 2016. Thousands of condos have been built in the region of Montreal these last years and many of them are still unoccupied and still on the housing market. According to real-estate experts, 2017 would be characterized by a slowing down of sells due to new mortgage loan measures. However, the growth of the employment market and the low unemployment rate should boost property sells.

Even though Montreal could be visited all year long, the period from November to March is the coldest one. However, it is an incredible experience to visit Montreal under the snow as it lights from lots of colors during the Christmas and New Year's Eve period. From April to October, the weather conditions are more pleasurable, with a mildness climate. From June to September, you will enjoy the hottest temperatures, with a clear blue sky. This is the period of the year chosen by most of foreign tourists to visit Montreal. However, you will experience international events such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, the "Juste pour Rire" Festival as well as the African Nights and lots of other cultural events.

Atwater Market

Created in 1933, Atwater market is famous for its numerous butchers and cheese shops, its horticultural producers and market gardeners. Open throughout the year, Atwater market offers a wide range of fresh products, which are refined, original and local. The savoir-faire of the merchants is due to the different generations that succeeded one another behind the shelves in order to perpetuate the tradition and to carry on the reputation of this market. This market was named in tribute to Edwin Atwater, a businessman and municipal councillor from the 19th century. The architecture of this art-deco style market made the building be considered as one of the most beautiful monuments in the city of Montreal.

Lachine Canal

Lachine Canal was firstly imagined by Dollier de Casson in 1689 but only opened in 1825 to deliver water to mills of Montreal while helping seafaring along the Northern countries. Along this canal, there is one of the best spots to have a picnic in Montreal during summer. Families and group of friends are used to enjoy from this lovely piece of nature. With more than 14 kilometers of urban itinerary, between the Old Port and the Lake of Saint-Louis, Canal of Lachine is an attractive place which welcomes numerous activities throughout the year.

Montreal Heritage Fest

In 2015 took place the first edition of the a new festival "Long life to heritage" (Vive le patrimoine). Organized by a group of young players committed to heritage conservation. Through guided tours, exhibitions, conferences and debates, this festival spotlights the richness of Montreal heritage.

Various professional and private initiatives are put forwards in order to gather, exchange and act regarding the heritage conservation. Several players take place to this major event: students, experts, professionals and citizens with a view to call to mind about the issues.
